2020 Angélus - Hommage à Elisabeth Bouchet, 750mL, case of 1 bottles, [Pre-Arrival]

$1,740.00

The story of Hommage à Elisabeth Bouchet begins with a love story in 1921, when Maurice de Boüard de Laforest married Élisabeth Bouchet. Élisabeth, a woman of remarkable vision and influence, played a key role in shaping the future of Château Angélus. It was she who encouraged the purchase of the iconic Clos de L’Angelus estate in Saint-Émilion. In her honor, Maurice replanted a large part of the estate with Cabernet Franc, a grape known locally as "Bouchet," thus intertwining her legacy with the vineyard itself.

To immortalize this extraordinary woman, Château Angélus created a rare and highly coveted wine, Hommage à Elisabeth Bouchet. Made exclusively from 100% Cabernet Franc, the cuvée is only produced in the finest vintages, when the grapes reach their peak expression. Each bottle represents not only the unique terroir but also the deep connection between the Bouchet family and the land. The vines used for this wine are among the oldest on the estate, some more than 100 years old, originally planted by Maurice de Boüard himself.

The vineyard's specific .5-hectare plot, with its yellow clay and limestone soil, offers ideal conditions for the grapes, retaining water through dry periods and capturing the sun’s warmth with its southwest exposure. The wine's production is extremely limited, with only five barrels made each year, and each bottle is carefully numbered and presented in individual wooden cases.

With vintages that began in 2016, the vinification process is meticulous. The wine ages for 22 months, with the exact combination of foudres and new French oak barrels varying according to the needs of the vintage. The 2020 vintage, for instance, is celebrated for its aromatic complexity, dense tannins, and an exceptionally long, elegant finish—a true reflection of the care and attention given to each bottle.

Hommage à Elisabeth Bouchet is not just a wine but a tribute to a woman whose legacy continues to shape one of the world’s most renowned vineyards. Its rarity and exceptional quality make it a true collector's item, cherished by wine enthusiasts around the globe.
